At 7:00 AM on Christmas Day our honeymoon cruise ship (Island Princess) docked at Puerto Limon. After disembarking the ship, we took a bus south through the Limoncito Wildlife Refuge to the Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica. After a brief introduction at the sanctuary, we had the opportunity to observe several of the sloths that are currently being rehabilitated before being released back into the jungle.
After having lunch at the sanctuary, we had the opportunity to take a canoe trip down the Rio Estrella. We observed all kinds of wildlife on the trip, including bats, crabs, lizards, sloths, and more. We also saw banana trees and tons of beautiful flowers.
After the canoe trip, we took a short hike through the jungle to see some wild sloths, then returned to Limon where we did some souvenir shopping before re-boarding the ship.
Because it was Christmas, we joined the crew of the ship in singing Christmas carols before dinner, and by 6:00 PM we had left Costa Rica for our next destination.
