Benjamin and Tiffany took a trip to Connecticut to see the fall colors. After flying to Hartford Bradley International Airport, they drove south to Wadsworth Falls State Park on the Coginchaug River, where they were able to enjoy the falls exclusively as nobody else was in the park. Next, they drove south to the coast at New Haven and visited the 80-foot tall Five Mile Point Lighthouse. They also collected seashells, walked along the beach, and enjoyed the views across the Long Island Sound.
In the southwest corner of the state, they visited Weir Farm National Historical Park, where they learned about the American painter J. Alden Weir, hiked through the woods and around Weir Pond, and took photographs of the many stone walls throughout the property.
After a great Lobster Roll lunch at The Boathouse restaurant in Lakeville, they stopped at the scenic West Cornwall Covered Bridge over the Housatonic River, then drove south to Kent Falls State Park. The park is home to a series of waterfalls that drop 250 feet in under a quarter mile (with the largest dropping more than 70 feet). The park and waterfalls were incredibly scenic and provided some beautiful fall colors.
After some final leaf peeping in Wyantenock State Forest, they drove to a section of the New England National Scenic Trail near Welles Pond, just outside of Hartford, then drove downtown to see the Connecticut State Capitol and Bushnell Park. Before leaving, they enjoyed a nice seafood dinner at the Maine Fish Market in Windsor Locks.
We drove to Hartford where we visited the Connecticut State Capitol, the Old State House, downtown, and the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Bushnell Park. We also took a tour of the Mark Twain House & Museum and saw the home of Harriet Beecher Stowe.
